objective
Kanji are structured, semi-pictoral symbols that contain inherent, non-verbal meaning for speakers of Chinese and Japanese (used for this series of posters). The symbols were chosen for their exemplification of expressive forms and simple beauty. The goal was simply to express my fascination.
solution
Flat colors and elegant yet expressive compositions were used. The only design elements used are the symbols themselves, and fields of color. The pieces are designed in the dimensions of a long hanging scroll, as might be used in more traditional calligraphy.
